Boerewors braai pie

¦ 500g boerewors,

braaied (keep in its coil)

¦ 1pkt (400g) puff pastry,


¦ 125ml (½ cup) sun dried

tomato pesto

¦ ½ onion, sliced and

sautéed with a bit of

crushed garlic

¦ Salt and pepper to taste

¦ 45ml (3 tablespoons)

chopped fresh coriander

¦ 5ml (1 teaspoon)


¦ 250ml (1 cup) grated


¦ Egg white for brushing


Prepare the fire – but not

too hot. Braai the boerewors

and set aside to cool.

Roll puff pastry out on a

lightly floured surface.

Spread pesto on one half,

top with onion and garlic


Place boerewors on

top and season with salt,

pepper, coriander and

paprika. Top with cheese.

Fold the clean half of pastry

over the filling and pinch

to close. Brush the top with

egg white.

Place on a braai grid and

close gently. Cook over the

coals for 15 minutes, turning


Cut into wedges and serve

with braaied mielies and


For better

control, place pastry on

the braai grid before filling

it. Braai grids are available

from most supermarkets

and are great for braaing
