Father's Day Brunch man size burgers

  • 45ml (3 tablespoons)
  • sunflower oil
  • 1 red onion, finely chopped
  • 10ml (2 teaspoons)
  • crushed garlic
  • 45ml (3 tablespoons) chopped
  • fresh coriander
  • salt and pepper
  • 3ml (½ teaspoon) dijon mustard
  • 500g lean minced beef
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • extra oil for frying
  • 4 hamburger rolls


Heat oil in a frying pan and fry onions

and garlic until they are soft. Allow

them to cool.

Place minced beef in a mixing bowl

and break up with your fingers, add

the onion and garlic mixture, mix

them thoroughly.

Season with salt, pepper and dijon

mustard. Pour in the egg and ensure

that it is mixed right through the beef

and onions.

Separate the mixture into four

portions and start moulding into

burgers using your hands.

Create a hole in the centre, this will

ensure the burgers cook evenly and

flat. Place in the fridge to chill and


Once chilled, heat oil in a heavy

based frying pan and gently fry the

beef patties. Turn them over until

cooked throughly or to the desired

pinkness in the centre.

Serve on crusty rolls with red

cabbage coleslaw, ready-made

salsa and top it with slices of white

cheddar cheese.
