Five things you may not know about Lundi Tyamara

Gospel superstar Lundi Tyamara passed away just after midnight on Janurary 27.

The gospel star was loved by many.

Here are five things you may not have known about the gospel singer:

  1. Lundi started his musical career as a backing singer for the legendary Dr Rebecca Malope and was noticed by producer Tshepo Nzimande, who later helped Lundi launch his first ever solo album.

  1. Lundi had 11 studio albums, a Live DVD and two compilation albums under his belt over a musical career that spanned over 18 years.

  1. Lundi was one of a handful of South African Artists who have exceeded unit sales of one million, with every release having exceeded double platinum.

  1. In 2005 Lundi was greatly moved by an article he read in the Daily Sun. The article recalled the story of a woman whose husband had thrown acid on her face, greatly injuring her and landing her in hospital. Along with two other artists from the Bula stable, Lundi went to visit Nomshado, the young victim, in hospital. Lundi was so deeply moved by Nomshado’s situation that, together with other Bula artists, he hosted a show to help raise funds for her. R30 000 was raised from the four shows.

  1. The singer celebrated his birthday on Reconciliation day (16 December)
