As a little girl growing up in KwaMashu Township, north of Durban, Brenda Mhlongo jumped at every opportunity to sing at funerals and weddings. She was also a member of a church choir.

During her teenage years, most high schools wanted her to be in their school choirs. “Before I knew it, I was singing and acting on stage at the Durban Playhouse. I was later cast to sing and act in the Lion King production,” she explains. Today, she is the member of The Lion King ensemble and has toured world

cities such as New York, Montreal, Chicago, Atlanta and Madrid.

Talking about her achievements, she says, “I enjoy entertaining people with my voice, whether it’s singing wedding songs on the street or in upmarket venues. But I never thought that I would end up performing in Broadway.  This has been possible through God’s grace.”
