City Press editor Ferial Haffajee has taken leave as the racism row plaguing her newsroom continues to rage.

According to the Sunday Independent, an e-mail sent to staff by Haffajee – that went viral - indicated she, their Flintstone editor, was taking leave and hoped that through this the journalists would be able to douse the fires she started.

She said she did not tolerate white racists, so would therefore not tolerate black racists.

The head of the newspaper division of Media24 News, Fergus Sampson, last week confirmed an internal probe had been launched into allegations of racism.

It was reported on Friday that a group of journalists at the publication would lay criminal charges against Haffajee after they accused her of racism.
