Hearing From God

There are times when we speak and God listens, and there are times also when speaking is God's responsibility and hearing is ours

"So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ." - Romans 10:17. Hearing can affect the rate at which your timeline accelerates.

Most people miraculously had an encounter with Jesus after they first heard about Him:

  • The woman with an issue of blood heard about Jesus. "After hearing about Jesus..." Mark 5:27
  • The paralytic man heard about Him. "It was heard that Jesus is in the town." Mark 2:1
  • Mary Magdalene heard about Him. "When she heard that He was reclining at the table in the Pharisee's house." Luke 7:37

Before the above-mentioned people took action, they first heard about Jesus. Jesus is the good news we need to hear. "Therefore, let us fear lest, while a promise remains of entering His rest, anyone of you should seem to have come short of it. For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they HEARD did not profit them, because it was not united with faith". Emphasis mine.

The book of Hebrews is about the superiority of Christ put in contrast with the old covenant, and Hebrews 4 is specifically about the journey of the Israelites from Egypt to the promise land.  When you read the journey from the book of Exodus, it is very clear that God was the pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night, and throughout the journey God was supernaturally providing for them. However, the writer of Hebrews says, "the word they heard did not profit them." The journey was supposed to be a 3 days to 11 days journey but it took them forty years to reach their destination, all because of lack of hearing.

Hebrews 5:11 "Concerning Him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. By this time you ought to be teachers." By this time, these guys ought to be teachers, but because they are dull of hearing, they are still spiritual babes.

By this time you are supposed to be having a mega business, but you are dull of hearing. By this time you are supposed to be an influential figure in your community, but you are dull of hearing. By this time you are supposed to be on the next level of your life, but you are dull of hearing.

May your ears be opened so that you would be able to hear the Word of the Lord for every situation in your life.

As you read this, I want to challenge you: if there's sickness in your body, just put your hands around that area and say these words, "(Name of sickness) hear the Word of Lord" and quote any Scripture that speaks about healing.

NB: This challenge is not limited to those who are sick; you can do it for any situation and couple it with a relevant Scripture.

"He who hath ears, let him hear what the Spirit sayeth."
