I’m HIV positive but my boyfriend is negative. He knows about my HIV status, but he doesn’t want to use a condom. Is he infected already. Please help.

Dr Eve responds:

Your boyfriend has put himself at risk by knowingly having sex with an HIV positive person. I think you agreed to practice unsafe sex because you are afraid to insist on a condom. Nowadays your boyfriend can be on ARVs and prevent becoming infected.

Also if you are on ARVs your viral load is low which makes it very difficult for you to transmit HIV. However, you will always need to use a condom.
