Anonymous from Sebokeng:

I have been married for four years. My husband and I stay in a back room in my sister-in-law’s yard and he refuses to move out. I have since met another guy who wants to settle down with me, but I’m very scared to leave my marriage because my parents are proud of me and my marriage. I don’t know what to do.

Sis Naledi responds:

You cannot get married to make your parents proud and happy if you are not. It will be better to end one relationship before starting another one because you are now confusing yourself and are likely to make your parents ashamed of your behaviour. It seems you are not communicating well with your husband and that your expectations are different. These can be addressed through talking and listening to each other’s needs and with respect. Unfortunately, if there is already another man you think is better, you will not be committed to solving your problems.
