Home Affairs boss held for corruption

A Home Affairs director, who allegedly assisted a Pakistani national to fraudulently obtain a South African passport‚ identity document and a marriage certificate, has been arrested.

According to the police, Elisha Matsipa‚ the assistant director at the immigration office has been charged with corruption after he was discovered to have allegedly received an amount of R23‚000 from Wahdat Hussain.

Hussain‚ who was arrested a fortnight ago‚ joined his co-accused at the Commercial Crimes Court on Monday and they are both  expected to make a formal bail application on Monday July 20.

Acting head of the Hawks Major General Mthandazo Ntlem believes they have strong case against the two suspects.
