Are you bored with your packed lunch? Change it up and try these affordable ideas to spice up your sandwiches.

  • Try different bread types

There’s brown bread, white bread and whole wheat bread but that’s not all. Explore the bread aisle at your grocery store and try something different.

-        Pita bread: a pizza base like semi-leavened bread this bread can be opened up and stuffed with a variety of delicious fillings.

-        Beagles: Usually eaten as breakfast, this bread is something like a baked savoury doughnut. Although there are flavoured beagles plain beagles are just as good with your favourite filling.

  • Eat your veggies

Think outside of the box. Don’t just use sandwich spreads and meats. Veggies are also great in sandwiches.

-        Use leftovers from Sunday lunch to make a tasty chicken and chakalaka sandwich.

-        Coleslaw is also a great way to put red and green cabbage into your lunch, use it with slices of roast beef or chicken breasts. This is also great to Jazz up a polony sandwich.

-         Creamed spinach also gives a great twist to cheese sandwiches

  • Cooked meat is great too

When people think sandwiches they automatically think of cold meats but cooked meats are great too.

-        Stuff your pita bread with delicious stews for a warm and hearty lunch ( pack the bread and meat separately and warm the stew before stuffing your bread at lunch time)

-        Roasted and grilled meats and fish are just as delicious cold making them a great stuffing for sandwiches
