CONVICTED rapper Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye couldn’t have asked for a better  a better way to start the new year.

On January 5 he was released from  Leeuwkop Prison after serving four years of his eight year service . The 33-year-old will taste freedom alongside his co-accused 30-year-old Themba Tshabalala, who was serving his sentence at Baviaanspoort Prison.

The pair were initially convicted for murder after crashing their vehicles into a group of school children in Soweto.

“The Department of Correctional Services can confirm that a joint Correctional Supervision and Parole Board sitting between Leeuwkop and Baviaanspoort Management Areas took place on 24 November 2016 to consider the placement on parole of offenders,

Molemo Maarohanye and Themba Tshabalala,” says the department’s spokesperson Ofentse Morwane adding that, after careful consideration of the case files of the two

offenders, a decision was taken to place both offenders on parole as from 5 January 2017.

“They will serve the remaining period of their sentences outside a correctional facility. It's

important to note that the two offenders have completed the minimum detention period as

required by the Correctional Services Act 111 of 1998. Other aspects considered included

representation of the victims and in this regard six victims made representations,” says Ofentse.
