Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema has called for the protection of wanted Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir.

Labelling him as “weak and a vulnerable leader”, Malema says al-Bashir must be defended from South Africa and its Western allies.

This comes after after the Pretoria High Court has issued an interim order stopping al-Bashir from leaving the country. He is wanted by the International Crimes Court for an assortment of crimes against humanity.

His controversial safe departure from South Africa recently caused mixed reactions and outrage, with many questioning the government’s respect for the constitution, which states that a if a wanted foreign leader visits a country, it was that country’s obligation to arrest him.
