A 19-year-old man accused of knifing a teenager to death and cutting her genitals appeared in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on a murder charge.

The courtroom was packed to capacity while others crowded outside the door as locals hoped to catch a glimpse of the man accused of murdering Lekita Moore, 18.

Cameron Wilson, dressed in a blue hoodie, indicated he would make a bail application at his next court appearance. The State said it would oppose this.

As he left the dock, people in the gallery threatened to kill him should he be released.

When the truck transporting prisoners arrived at the court, a crowd of protesters outside the gates demanded to see him.

“Rape the rapist! Maak hom vrek!” they shouted. “Bring hom uit hier, die naai! Ons sal hom self vrek maak! [Kill him. Bring him out, the f**ker. We will kill him ourselves.]”

An elderly protester said she walked to the court because she wanted to see who stood accused of the most brutal murder the community had ever seen.

"What could this girl have done to deserve this? How do you justify doing such a deed to someone's child?" she asked.

Moore was found dead on a field in Nooitgedacht on Sunday. She had left home the night before to go to a karaoke party in neighbouring Valhalla Park.

She was found naked with knife wounds to her upper body. One of her nipples and her vagina had been mutilated.

Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk said investigations led to the man's arrest on Tuesday night.

The matter was postponed to October 11.
