A Mozambican man was arrested on Wednesday after threatening to kill two people over an outstanding debt of R40.

Members of the Kagiso police arrested the 44-year-old suspect after he drew a firearm and demanded that a couple pay the outstanding amount that they allegedly owed him.

The incident happened at Swaneville’s Mayibuye section near Roodepoort.

According to police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya, the man went to the couple’s home and did not take the news well that they did not have the outstanding amount.

"The suspect was aggressive and demanded the amount of R40 that they owed him. The couple tried to explain their failure to settle the outstanding R40 balance, but the suspect drew a firearm and threatened to kill them."

The situation was brought under control when the landlord intervened.

The matter was reported to the police, who then launched an investigation.

The man is expected to appear briefly in the Kagiso Magistrate's Court soon, facing charges of pointing a firearm and common assault.
