There was no violence reported overnight in Nyanga, Cape Town police said.

"The situation is calm, no incident has been reported," Captain Frederick van Wyk said.

A taxi driver was shot dead and buses were set alight during a protest in the area on Monday.

The 39-year-old man from Zwelitsha was apparently shot while on his way to work.

At the same time, seven buses were set alight and four badly damaged during a violent protest in the area.

Golden Arrow Bus Services spokesperson Bronwen Dyke said on Monday that 11 bus drivers were pulled from their vehicles and assaulted.

It was believed the crowd could have been taxi drivers who were protesting.
