Whether you call him Oscar Warona, The Big O or just plain Oskido, Oscar Mdlongwa is most certainly one of the godfathers of modern South African music and it is impossible to talk about the story of SA music without mentioning his name somewhere within that conversation.

His name is synonymous with the rise and development of the post democratic South African music scene, it can be argued that his recording company Kalawa Jazmee (which he co-founded with Don Laka and DJ Christos) profoundly changed the landscape of South African Music in the 21st century.

He is one half of the pioneering Kwaito group Brothers Of Peace (B.O.P) and is the mastermind behind the legendary house compilation series Oskido’s Church Grooves. He  has worked with and nurtured some of the best acts in the country like Boom Shaka, Mafikizolo, Thebe, Alaska, Professor, DJ Zinhle,  Magesh and others.

Remaining true to his ‘godfather’ tag; Oskido, Greg Maloka, DJ Fresh, Vinny Da Vinci and DJ Christos collectively started the Deejays Unite (DJU) foundation to equip young musicians and DJs with essential industry information and lessons through the annual South African Music Conference. The conference has produced names such as DJs Black Coffee, Tira and Euphonik to mention a few, who have broken into the industry and helped open doors for other aspiring DJs.

In 2012 Oskido was honoured at the Channel O Music Video Awards with the Special Recognition Award for his contribution to the development of the South African music scene.
