Ingredients you will need

2 tablespoons (30ml) oil

500g beef, cubed

1 tablespoon (15ml) mixed spices

1 cup (250ml) beef stock

150g peas

4 carrots, diced

1 cup (250ml) uncooked rice


Heat oil in a saucepan and brown the beef with the spices. Add the stock and cook until the meat is tender. Add the peas, carrots and rice, toss together and cook for a further 15 minutes. Serve with kachumbari (tomato, onion and vinegar salad).

Move! TIP: Pilau is prepared at weddings and large gatherings. Spices are crushed together to produce the flavour.
