From a young age in their native Kenya,Bien Aime Baraza, Willis Austin Chimano, Delvin Mudigi and Polycarp Otieno were conditioned to believe that music was a worthless pursuit.

Blending Pop with traditional Kenyan influences, Sauti Sol’s combination of energetic rhythms has seen the group become one of East Africa’s most celebrated acts.With two successful albums in three years, this band reflects a range of musical wealth inspired by African artists including Lokua Kanza, Fadhili Williams, Daudi Kabaka, Fally Ipupa and Salif Keita. Sauti Sol’s two albums, Mwanzo (2008) and Sol Filosofia (2011), have received high acclaim on Kenyan charts and gained international. In February 2012 they debuted at the “festival sur le Niger” in Mali where they performed alongside some of their African idols including Habib Koite, Salif Keita and Lokua Kanza.

In June 2012, Sauti Sol released their self-titled EP, a collaborative effort with South African rapper/producer Spoek Mathambo of the Seattle-based Sub Pop Records. A successful tour in Europe in July saw them launch the EP in Amsterdam’s MC theatre, after which they performed at the Kalorvy Vary International film festival and Colours of Ostrava 2012, Czech Republic’s biggest music festival in Kenya with internationally renowned South African a cappella group Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

In 2013, Sauti Sol was named Artist of the Year at Kenya’s inaugural Social Media (SOMA) Awards.
