South African women who have done well for themselves

In the spirit of Women's Day we have decided to publish a list of well known South African women we feel have done well for themselves

1. Thuli Madonsela is South Africa's most loved public protector. She s well respected because of the role she played in the Nkandla saga.

2. Basetsana Khumalo is a television personality, beauty pageant titleholder, businesswoman,reality show producer and philanthropist.

3. Winnie Madikizela-Mandela is a activist and politician who has held several government positions and headed the African National Congress Women's League. She is a member of the ANC's National Executive Committee.

4. Connie Furgueson  is an renowned actress. She is best known for her role as Karabo Moroka for around 16 years in  Generations and subsequently as Mavis Mabaso in Rockville which she and her husband, Shona produced.


5. Lira is a multi-platinum selling and a 11 times South African Music Award-winning Afro-Soul vocalist.

6. Bonang Matheba is the jack of all trades. She is an entertainer, model, businesswoman, presenter and Metro FM DJ.


7. Nompendulo Mkatshwa was one of the Wits SRC students who started the #FeesMustFall campaign.  Social media labelled her as the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela of our era.


8. Yvonne Chaka Chaka is an internationally recognized and highly respected South African singer, songwriter, entrepreneur, humanitarian and teacher.
