Taxi owner gunned down in Soweto

A taxi owner has died in a shootout in Soweto which erupted on Friday.

Two men were shot at while sitting in a car in Rockville, Soweto, on Friday March 24.

The two men were sitting in the vehicle when two other men started shooting them.

The one victim, a man thought to be a taxi owner, died at the scene, while the other victim was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

He is believed to be in a critical, but stable condition. The shooting is believed to be connected to conflict in the taxi industry.

The suspects fled in an unidentified car.

"One died and the other one was taken to hospital. So far, there have been no arrests, and we do not have any suspects yet, but we are continuing with an investigation of murder and attempted murder," said Lieutenant Kay Makhubela.

Makhubela appealed to the community to assist law enforcement with any information they may have with regard to the crime.
