These five young musicians bring a refreshing change from the usual rappers and House DJs who are currently dominating the popular music scene, in that they play live instruments.

In additionto this, is the fact that all five group members are respectable singers in their various genres of expertise.  This is one of the reasons why they decided to call themselves The Muffinz. “We wanted a name that would be remembered, something catchy but a name that people would want to find out more about.

Plus, we all come from different backgrounds musically and so we all bring different ingredients – as in the ingredients of a muffin” band acoustic guitarist and vocalist Mthabisi “Mthae”Sibanda explains. The group began in 2010when Mthae, Gregory “Keke” Mabusela, Karabo ‘Skabz’ Moeketsi, and Sifiso ‘Atomza’ Buthelezi, met while singing in the University of Johannesburg Choir. The trio decided to join forces and guitars to foam a band.

They entered a competition at Cool Runnings in Melville and their performances were so good, they caused one of the judges to weep in affection. Events subsequent to this performance saw the boys signed under Just Music recording label.  The boys eventually recorded their album at the famous Jazzworks studios where artists such as HHP and Lira work on their projects.

The album was produced by the band themselves as well as the Jazzworx team of Robin Kohl, Tebogo Moloto and Leroy Croft.  The end product was the quality 11 track album Have you Heard? released in May 2012. The lead single off the album is a regular feature on many commercial radio stations with “Umsebensi Wendoda” enjoying success on Channel O.
