Tiwa Savage’s family immigrated to England from Nigeria when she was 11 and she returned to Nigeria a few years ago. She has been a backup vocalist since age 17 and this saw her sing for George Michael.

It was during the time Tiwa worked at the Royal Bank of Scotland - after graduating from the University of Kent with a degree in business administration - when she got the call to sing backup for Mary J. Blige for a European tour that was beginning in three days. The budding songstress decided to chuck accounting and focus solely on her music full-time.In 2009, Sony/ATV Music Publishing signed Tiwa to a music deal.

The deal solidified her to write for Babyface, Kat Deluna, Fantasia Barrino, Monica and Mya, among others. She has received songwriting credits for her contribution to Monica's soul-tinged ballad titled "Catch Me". Moreover, her collaboration with Fantasia on the song "Collard Greens & Cornbread" earned her a Grammy nomination in 2010.

Tiwa also performed background vocals on Whitney Houston’s album "I Look to You". In December of 2011, she co-hosted Season 2 of the Nigerian Idol alongside IllRymz. Since then, she has gone on to record the hit single “Kele Kele Love”.

The song features on American singer Fantasia’s third studio album called Back to Me. On July 3, 2013, Tiwa released her long awaited debut album, Once Upon A Time to the Nigerian public.
