Here is the top 5 of old female actresses who have been in the industry for a very long time.

  1. Lydia Mmakwena Mokgokoloshi


The 77 year-old was born in Limpopo in a dry desert area next to the Tropic of Capricorn in a village called Botlokwa. The actress is best known for her Sepedi drama television roles as Mma-Nkosheng in the SABC3 series Bophelo ke Semphekgo which was playing in the 1990s and as Koko in the SABC1 series Skeem Saam.

  1. Abigail Khubeka


The 75 year-old was born in 1941 in Orlando East, Soweto's first formal township. Her mother washed clothes for a living and her father worked in a warehouse. Kubeka attended a missionary boarding school in Kilnerton, near Pretoria. At an early age, Khubeka displayed her talent for singing at school.

She is a singer, songwriter, musical arranger and actress who is known primarily for her musical performances and now she plays the character of Zondiwe who is Tau and Tshidi’s mother on Generations The Legacy.

  1. Nomhle Nkonyeni


The 74 year-old narrator was born on 9 April 1942 in New Brighton. Her parents were Tsobola and Edwin Nkonyeni. She started acting in 1961. She has appeared in numerous television productions, including Mzansi, Tsha Tsha and the television mini-series, Society and recently she was on etv’s Igazi.

In 2016 she was awarded the SAFTAs Lifetime Achievement Award.

  1. Francis Ndlazilwana


Frances Ndlazilwana is a South African actress best known for her role as Lydia Maema in the controversial 2007 mini-series After Nine. She has also had recurring roles on the drama series 4Play: Sex Tips for Girls and the SABC2 drama series Erfsondes. She also appeared in the 2009 mini-series Diamonds. In 2015 she had a guest starring role on the soapie Scandal. She is a grandmother to Mbulelo and Fezeka Katise.

  1. Cynthia Shange


The 67 year-old was born in Lamontville, Durban, in Kwazulu Natal. She started modeling in 1970 and went on to win several titles. Her victory entitled her to represent South Africa at The Miss World competition in 1972.

She also became part of many films such as Deliwe, Shaka  Zulu an now she plays the role of MaNkosi (Thandaza’s mother)  on Muvhango. Also she is the mother of TV personality, Nonhle Thema.
