A care fund is being set up for the 6-week-old baby who was recently raped in Galeshewe, Kimberly.

The fund is initiated by Maverick State, the promoters of the Kirk Franklin, Joyous Celebration & Khaya Mthethwa concert which takes place this weekend. Maverick State are pledging some of the proceeds of the gospel concert to the "Baby Galeshewe" Fund. The fund is intended to go towards assisting the child’s family meet the expenses of her medical and other needs.

The 6 week old Baby Galeshewe was recently released from the intensive care unit at Kimberly hospital and is due to be discharged in the care of her family. She was raped in November by a 28 year old man. An incident described by President Jacob Zuma as "is inexplicable and devastating in the extreme."

Maverick State has also challenged the business community in Kimberly and beyond, along with all the service providers involved in this concert to donate to the fund, which will be managed by the Northern Cape Office of the Premier on behalf of the baby’s family.

To date, the fund has received support from the Northern Cape Department of Economic Development, Department of Sports, Arts & Culture as well as well as the Sol Plaatje Municipality.
