What was your childhood like?

I grew up with a very strict father so although I felt loved, I always wanted more. I never sat on my dad’s lap and I can’t remember hugging him because he wasn’t very emotional. We had many arguments so I felt as if I didn’t belong.

Those feelings are changing now that I’m a mother. I’m realising that he was strict because he was overprotective and we argued so much because that is how we expressed our love for each other. So I have many happy memories such as Christmas and New Year, but I also have moments where I felt lonely growing up.

What does Christmas mean for you?

Besides love, it’s also about reconnecting with your own birth and going back to your roots by celebrating God and your ancestors.
