MZANZI’S top stars were honoured at the tenth annual SA Film and Television Awards.

The glittering event was held at Midrand’s Gallagher Estate Convention centre on Sunday.

People voted Skeem Saam the most popular soapie and Katlego Maboe the best TV presenter.

Rhythm City was judged the best TV soapie, taking its first award in nine years.

Veteran actor Vusi Kunene, who plays the role of Bhekifa Ngubane in TV soapie Isibaya 3, was named best actor. Vusi said

he was very happy with his award. “It is a dream come true. I’ve always loved being part of Isibaya and winning an award with them is the best thing ever.”

Vusi has been in the industry for over 20 years and said Sunday night’s award was his second, as he also won while on Soul City back in 2011.

TV presenter Katlego said this was his second award in a row and thanked his fans across the country.

“I was voted for by the people and if people recognise my talent, it means a lot to me.”

He has been a presenter on TV for six years and said hard work and aiming for the best has been his inspiration to get to the top.

“I work hard at every opportunity I get. I love what I do and I give my all when given a chance.”

It was also all smiles for Mduduzi Mabaso, who plays Suffocate on e.tv’s Rhythm City, when he was called on stage.

He won his first award as best lead actor in a feature film.
