A woman in her late 30s was struck by lightning in Johannesburg on Friday, paramedics said.

She was found sitting in a passage at the premises of a business, ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing Harduth said in a statement.

She sustained moderate injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring could not immediately respond with details of where exactly the incident had taken place.

In January, a woman was killed by a lightning strike in the Mpumalanga Lowveld. In February, three churchgoers were killed and 38 injured when lightning struck a tree in a veld in KwaMachi, KwaZulu-Natal.
