Beckham, baboons and badmouthing - a week in GIFs

2013-05-23 14:45
There's no denying it; it's been a rough news week. From the devastating tornado in Oklahoma in the US to the horrific London machete attack, things seemed bleak.

We have to admit though, there were a few things that left us chuckling -- and a few other things that left us completely puzzled. In no particular order, here are some of the crazier news items that crossed our desks this week.

1. A troupe of too-cheeky-for-their-own-good baboons ransacked a house in Betty's Bay in the Western Cape. We're not exaggerating when we say they turned the house upside down. We're officially terrified of baboons.

2. Did you watch David Beckham's very last football match? Half of us are sad we'll never see his expertise on the pitch again. The other half of us are sad we won't get to see him bend it in those short-shorts. Either way, we're sad.

3. Oh, Carl Pistorius. How we love to hate you. Sure, he was acquitted on charges of culpable homicide but Mr Smug clearly forgot a woman died in the accident. We found his overly confident demeanor a little off-putting.

4. Speaking of being overly condifent, Snoop Diggity Dogg Lion rolled into town this week. And that wasn't the only rolling he did. Ignoring Metro Police warnings he apparently lit up a joint on stage. We didn't expect anything less.

5. Later in the week, some of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela's household items were set to be auctioned at her home to pay off her debts. Clearly, Madikizela-Mandela was having none of it. When bidders and journalists turned up for the auction they were all "Winnie! Winnie! Let us in!"

And she was all "LOL! No." (No, seriously. She didn't open the front door and the auction was cancelled.)

6. And then there was the parliamentary debate! Where MPs berated one another for their differing views on the Gupta scandal. The insults were quick and scathing. They pretty much stopped short of "yo' mamma's so fat". Our personal favourite? "Years of frustration with President Zuma's sugar daddies, including the Shaiks, the Reddys and the Guptas, who make up Zuma Inc, exploded," said DA MP, David Maynier.

We were amused and a little grossed out. Just like Taylor Swift when she saw Selena Gomez give her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber a kiss...

Sjoe! We're ready for the weekend. How about you?
