This article is a response to an article wrote by Tyronehster on the 31st of May, 2013. It was titled Stupid Creationists. http://www.news24.com/MyNews24/Stupid-Creationists-20130531 In this article Tyronehster claimed that Prof. David Block was a creationist. Let’s have a look at what a creationist is, first. From the Concise Oxford Dictionary, Seventh edition, 1982, Edited by J.B. Sykes I get: Creationism: n. theory attributing origin of matter and biological species to special creation (not to evolution); so ~ist (2) n. [f. prec. + ISM]. What is clear in this definition is that a creationist thinks that: 1. The origin of matter is attributed to special creation. 2. The origin of species is attributed to special creation and not to the theory of evolution. Let’s have a look at Professor Block. I get my information from his website. Professor David Block was elected a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society of London at age 19. His first research paper, on relativistic astrophysics, was published in London, by the Royal Astronomical Society, at age 20. Professor Block is currently Director of the Anglo American Cosmic Dust Laboratory at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. In 2006, Professor Block received the University’s highest research accolade: the Vice-Chancellor’s Research Award. In the article Tyronehster authored, he claimed that Prof. Block was a creationist. From the website it is obvious that Prof. Block accepts the Big Bang theory, that the Universe is more than 13 billion years old and that the earth is more that 4 billion years old. In the meantime, I couldn't find anything on Prof. David Block rejecting the Theory of Evolution, yet Tyronehster implied that Prof. Block does. It seems as if it is an old trick by some fundamentalist religious people, who reject science, to imply that religious scientists do the same. I am asking a question to Tyronehster: Which scientific theories do Prof. Block accept and reject? Big Bang Theory? Theory of Evolution? Tyronehster chose not to answer previously. Another person called Toby Strong also started commenting, but didn’t answer the question. Tyronehster, does Prof. David Block accept or reject the Theory of Evolution?
