Angelina Jolie Publicity Stunt?

15 May 2013, 15:05

I am sure, as with most of my articles, this article is sure to get many backs up.  However, I do want to express my opinion.

I am in shock as to how Angelina Jolie is being hailed a hero for voluntarily removing her completely healthy breasts, which, to me appears to be yet another publicity stunt, however, this in very bad taste.

Raising awareness for breast cancer? More like raising awareness for Angelina Jolie.

There are thousands of women world-wide who have been forced to have their breasts removed as a result of cancer – they have been forced to do so in order to SAVE THEIR LIVES.  Not done on an thoughtless whim.

Ms Jolie could also potentially develop lung cancer, cervical cancer, ovarian, brain cancer, bone cancer and so on…is she going to remove those organs as well?

Instead of the amount of money she squandered on her superfluous surgery and then the reconstruction of her perfectly pert boobs, that money could have been better spent on creating clinics for women in underdeveloped countries, for which Ms Jolie has a penchant, for the women of the third world countries to receive free mammograms.  Surely this would have a more positive impact?  Or for the treatment of breast cancer?

And yes, I have read the statistics – I am fully aware that Angelina had an 87% chance of developing breast cancer….however, in my humble opinion, I do not believe that her latest publicity stunt, in promoting Brand Angelina Jolie, does anything for women with breast cancer.

Except, perhaps, for those who do not have excess funds available for breast reconstruction after lifesaving surgery, her actions may yield a feeling of melancholy as they look in the mirror at their flat chests and scars which truly do say “I AM A SURVIVOR”.
