Missing South Africa

25 November 2010, 15:10  - Seoul, South Korea
I am currently living in Seoul, South Korea and I must admit that I miss South Africa terribly.

It's the beginning of winter and I'm just not equipped to deal with this cold - coming from Durban, I'm used to all four seasons being summer.

Of course, I must read the electronic news from News24 and a host of other SA online publications.

Seoul has a big expat community and I have met many South Africans here, most of them are doing ESL teaching and the pay is very good compared to harder working jobs back home.

South Africa from a birds eye is a country that works like clockwork and is efficient, but the current government is killing the country.

Pretty soon resources and industry will grind to a halt due to corruption, mismanagement, jobs for pals and quota system. The high crime rate is driving tourism to other parts of the globe and predictions of doom and gloom seem not to worry the current government.

It's a daily jab from other expats to ask about South Africa and this keenness seems to stem from the recent Soccer World Cup.

It is very embarrassing to defend South Africa and my hope and prayer is that South Africa does not go the route of the rest of Africa.
