So each motorist is expected to pay SANRAL for the privilege of being issued with an e-tag to be affixed to the windscreen. Why SANRAL?So you can easily identify the car as it passes under a gantry – right? Well if your numberplate recognition systems are so damn good why do we need an e-tag to identify the car? You can simply read the numberplate – right?I'll bet it is because you know that the system is imperfect and the slightest obscuring, scratch or visual impediment renders your numberplate recognition system US? Am I right SANRAL? Trying to read numberplates from overhead is not going to work 100%. Perhaps not even 50%. And in a heavy downpour?Another damn good reason not to buy and e-tag.
