Johannesburg and mining with a perspective on helping SA...

19 February 2014, 10:59
I am not sure if everybody really appreciates the story of how this city became so big. The greatest city in Africa.

See all those old mine dumps. That is how it all began here in SA.With the development of mines, The creation of Jobs, industry started booming.

If our mining contributes to less than 10% of our countries income, yet the very mining happens to be the backbone that allows many other industries to flourish. Just imagine what could happen if we increased our mining 10 fold?It makes no sense that our mining industry is left with labour problems when we have so many people unemployed. Each mine should have local responsibilities, Not like before. Real responsibilities.

We can tackle 1 informal settlement, 1 at a time.Realistic delivery can be attained. For every new mining licence, Land can be bought for homes and services can get paid for by the mines. You cant demand them to build thousands of houses, but you can get a good start from them.Imagine a new mining license meant land would be bought, Not taken, bought and services for a development paid for. Now, the government can spend money and build foundations for a good few homes.People can build their own homes.

Government can spend money on advisers and inspectors. rather provide material at worst but let people do their own building. We can be doing more, but we did not have to kill a good country in trying to do it,We need to start valuing the prospect of more local mining licenses, fair incentives and create more work.

Nigeria is going to pass us so fast and the only reason for that is we have this Zuma administration that does not see the bigger picture,I wonder if the DA does either by the way, We are too rigid in our thinking.we could have provided land for 10 informal settlements per year, provided foundations and given people some kind of builder starter packs, But we need a booming economy.

When people talk about the financial crisis as and excuse, It makes me mad.SA should be growing and growing fast.Seems delivery has been intentionally slowed down by ANC.How is it they do not see what we see?
