Getting toobig fortheir boots

14 March 2016, 12:56

THE Concerned Swimming Fraternity (CSF) is grateful to The Witness and staffer Amil Umraw for the detailed feature on the sad state of swimming facilities in our city of choice (The Witness, May 11).

We have attempted for some time to get answers to our concerns on the condition of Buchanan Street so as to ensure swimming continues in winter. We were forwarded a document and instructed to complete it in terms of Section 18(1) in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act No 2/2000 for a reply to our inquiry!

It is the firm stance of the CSF that the ANC-led municipality’s municipal manager and the community services head are hell-bent on frustrating us from playing a watchdog role and holding accountable those basking in paradise in the Parks Department.

Access to everyday information can never fall under the Promotion of Access to Information Act No 2/2000.

When this happens, then the architects in the city hall consider themselves bigger than our Constitution. Such folk need to be schooled on the basics of the Constitution.
