IF desperate times lead to desperate accusations, then we can perhaps begin to understand State Security Minister David Mahlobo’s claims that we have international opponents trying to destabilise SA.
He went as far as claiming that Public Protector Thuli Madonsela was working for the CIA and I would like to use my common sense to refute this insanity. The main evidence that the CIA is not trying to overthrow the Jacob Zuma-led ANC is the fact that the party is still in power in South Africa.
The CIA has succeeded in its efforts, from toppling communist Russian leadership to neutralising Al-Qaeda through special forces, so if it wanted to end Zuma’s rule, there is not much Mahlobo could do to stop this.
I would also urge Mahlobo not to risk antagonising the main economic, technological and military superpower into even considering getting involved here.
If the CIA thinks its reputation is taking serious damage by not succeeding in changing the regime in SA it could be motivated to actually trying to.
