THE late Frank Martin (MEC in Natal) many years ago recommended the compulsory stop below Queen Elizabeth Park. It worked brilliantly in controlling the carnage on the N3 down Townhill.
Since then, the traffic volume has increased to unprecedented and unimagined flows 30 years later. I suggest that the only way to slow the heavy traffic is for another compulsory stop to be established near Peter Brown Drive after the off-ramp to Montrose, with the opportunity of an arrester bed for those terrified drivers who are not aware of the dangers on this area of the N3. The slope then becomes gentle.
I beg of Sanral to investigate this, as the constant horror of deaths on this portion of road needs action from those in charge of road design and safety. It is terrifying for people who have to drive on this road, and is not good for our country, tourism and wellbeing. It is unacceptable.
