PRISCILLA Padayachee Naidoo’s assertion (May 6) that paying for parking creates jobs is a joke.
You should know that Panzascore DPS is a significant beneficiary of the money generated in this venture with the Msunduzi Municipality.
Her idea that “the money can then be taken and invested into this community” is a dream. It would be welcomed if she and councillor Rachel Soobiah could provide the public with proof that this money is being reinvested successfully in community upliftment.
Padayachee Naidoo correctly stated that “ANC councillors have openly accepted this since its inception”. This is no surprise as the business community’s views on the implementation of parking fees has never been considered and is another example of how things can be forced down people’s throats by those in authority. As an alternative, why doesn’t Council restrict the free time allowed for parking to 30 minutes, and place signs to this effect? Where are the wardens who should be watching for offenders? I recommend they be brought back, which would save her and Soobiah the time and effort of having to witness “people parking their cars and taking taxis to town”.
There may be a few people who abuse parking, which is not peculiar to Raisethorpe. However, this is no reason to penalise everyone. Paying for parking in the Raisethorpe CBD is absolute nonsense!
