I AM happy that the “Zumamustfall” campaign is failing to get off the ground.
It was clear from the word go that the campaign would not be successful because it is led by the people who harbour a terrible hatred for President Jacob Zuma. Their march on Freedom Day in Durban was a spectacular failure.
We were told that thousands would be marching but fewer than 200 people participated. It is evident that people have realised that Zuma is being persecuted. Zuma has been under fire since he became president. The Nkandla constitutional verdict gave his opponents ammunition to call for him to step down. They have been relentless in their efforts to tarnish his image. They fail to understand that Zuma was elected by more than 62% of the population and only those people who voted for him have the power to remove him. The courts must not allow themselves to be used by Zuma’s opponents to fight political battles.
Zuma will finish his term. He cannot be intimidated by people who know nothing about struggle in this country. Zuma’s struggle credentials are unparalleled. He fought against the apartheid regime and as a result he was jailed for 10 years. We enjoy freedom these days because of Zuma’s sacrifices and those of other freedom fighters. It is unbelievable that some people have such short memories, that they despise people who freed us.
My message to these rogue elements in our society is that they can continue with these wrong tendencies but history will judge them harshly.
