Looking at a school in the new SA

25 February 2014, 20:00
I attended a school function at Mondeor High this morning. The head is Miss Nicolou. She runs a vibrant dynamic school that is based on good christian principles with 1600 learners.
A completely multi racial school with strong leaders.
I witnessed their prayers with most fascination. We all bowed our heads and both the head boy and head girl said their prayers.
Followed by a prefect that said a Muslim prayer and then another prefect that said a prayer in Zulu.
Can you actually imagine that. I thought it was amazing.Reality of SA playing out as it should.Mandela style,
The fact that the school anthem I cannot fully sing, Only because it makes this grown man cry like a baby.We have the most beautiful and amazing Anthem words cannot possibly justify. Not by me anyway.
I wish more people see the beauty of our Anthem.
First time it hit me was at the soccer world cup. I was at St Stidians school and we were watching on the big screen on the rugby fields.
When I saw how a family friends father sang the anthem, The pride and compassion in  every word, I got chills. I realized then what it is we have.
Remember the opening game,We all sang with pride, That event pulled people together in a rather unnatural manner.
People in SA have got some serious spirit,
Be nice if we started embracing it in parliament and on the local broadcaster.
People are missing out.
There is in fact a massive kumbaya potential in SA.
I prefer not to use the word Ubuntu for a while, too many people that have uttered those words have not meant it.
It is almost as if that word in SA is associated with a lie.
This morning was refreshing,
Ubuntu doesn't sound that stupid when you see it with your own eyes.
Why lawyers get paid more than teachers is way beyond me.
It should change,
pay teachers more than others,
They are after all the ones that we trust to teach our kids.
