Metal Industries Surplus funds

03 June 2013, 10:25

Many former members of the Metal Industries Provident/Pension Fund (MIPF) have endured a frustrating wait for their surplus payout & for the majority they are no closer to getting a positive response from the Metal Industries Benefit Fund Administrators (MIBFA). Workers who are still current members have already received their surplus payout, so the big question is why do former members have to endure such a long wait ? When you are lucky enough to get through to the MIBFA call centre, the response is always the same, “ Please be patient as the surplus apportionment is a lengthy process. No, we cannot say when you will receive your statement/payout.”

The only way to see progress on your application is to get your previous unions involved as I did. The two unions during my employment in the Metal industries were UASA and NUMSA. UASA can be contacted on  0861 00 8272 or email andre.venter@uasa.org.za , and NUMSA on 011 689 1700 or email  CarolineM@numsa.org.za alternatively Ncebakazi Aphane has been helpful in getting my statement and bank mandate documents and she can be contacted via email at NcebakaziM@mibfa.co.za.

I also still await for my surplus payout but I am more hopeful that it will be sooner rather than later. I hope that these contact details will be of benefit to the many other former Metal industries members out there.
