Our victims know us by their scars - Truth Reconciliation Commission

23 June 2014, 11:51

I believe there is nothing called forgiveness in this world, no person can just alter things as if nothing happened. Forgiveness means you erase the entire memory and to never look back, so what if someone killed your family member (s)? and you say you forgive that person but when you miss you family member wouldn't you resent the person that killed your family member?

For far too long we have been fooled by the media, showing us mis-truth and half of what reality holds. I still walk around townships and smell poverty, I walk in the suburban neighborhoods and get stopped to be search by police. The honest truth is that skin colour still plays a vital role in our society and you get crucified for it...

Before I gallivant, I would love to pose a rhetorical question. What has the Truth Reconciliation Commission done for the Black community?

It forced an offender to face a victim and digging all the wounds of the past. There was no reconciliation and the truth was forced out of people and afterwards there was no after care for the victims psychologically, Spiritually and emotionally. It was the first SA reality TV! It created a deep wound, didn't give closure since there was no justice... It protected the offender by pushing them to speak about their handlers and forgetting that they also played part in the act. Families of victims r in a worse posture than before. It was not a justice driven reconciliation.

If Jews still speak about the Holocaust why black South Africans should keep quiet, while our fathers grave are still unknown and people like Derby Lewis refused to tell the truth about who send them to kill Chris Thembisile Hani. Year after year we discover new shallow graves where the apartheid regime buried people and we have a no go area for black people like Orania.

The T.R.C only gave Desmond Tutu fame and slapped our people with the harsh reality that nobody cares about the families and the victims. It about time we address such issues in media platforms and no sugar coat anything. As a country we need to start on the new slate and redress the wounds because people still carry burdens, raising kids with fading pictures of parents who vanished in their youth.

The offenders must admit their doings and show remorse, people like F.W DE KLERK must be honest to the world that they also took part in killing people.

My generation shouldn't be carrying such a load, I see no reason why I should hate a white person and sing "kill the boer" but I silence get angry when I look at my people who were victims and TRC has done anything for my people beside opening old wounds
