Preparing for Friday 21 December 2012

20 December 2012, 13:41
The Mayan calendar ends on 21 December 2012. They claim that it only means birth and renewal. There will not necessarily be any kind of “event” – cataclysmic or otherwise.

There will just be a new age for mankind and the earth. The Mayan writings seem to support this theory the most. There have been previous ages according to Mayan mythology and there is to be a fifth age.

So all that the Mayan calendar is actually confirming is our collective fear/superstition around the number 13. Seems like the Mayans will just leave out the number 13 and go straight to 2014. Like we all do. Have you ever traveled in a lift that takes you up to floor 13??? I certainly haven't. All high rise buildings seem to have a floor missing between the 12th and 14th floors. So in fact you travel from floor 12 to 14, without missing anything, not even a heartbeat. And although we all know that the 14th floor is actually the 13th floor, we all happily accept this arrangement because of our collective fear of the number 13.

President Jacob Zuma though isn't taking this Mayan thing lightly.

He will be safely tucked away with his family in his new underground bunker at Nkandla, come 21 December 2012.
