Satan's Snares: The Entertainment Industry

28 August 2013, 07:08

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour."- 1 Peter 5:4. It is ever the devil's plan to destruct the minds of men from the truth of God, and direct it to the objects of the world, thus polluting the minds. Many a snare have he devised to keep us occupied so that we can loose our focus on spiritual things, things that are eternal, to temporal things. It is ever his purpose to keep the minds of unbelievers to remain in darkness, and ensnare Christians in his deceptions to lead them astray and live by the standards of the world rather than those of God. But he who shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved, he whose trust is in God.

You see men become changed when "with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, [even] as by the Spirit of the Lord."- 2 Corinthians 3:18, the glory of God being his Character. see Exodus 33:18,19 and 34:5-7 (for God's glory is his character). Now here a principle is established, that is, by beholding we become changed. And according to the verse, when we behold the glory (character) of Christ, we are changed from glory to glory unto his likeness. And his character is revealed through his life and his truth, so by beholding Christ in the Scriptures, we are changed. It is why Christ said when he was praying to the Father for his followers; " Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth."- John 17:17 and by comparing the scriptures, we learn that the word of God sanctify us when we obey it through the Holy Spirit, you don't just read it, but you have to put it into practice and thus you will be changed from character to character of Christ. note this verse; "Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit..."-1 Peter 1:22.

This is the essence of sanctification through faith in Christ, opening the way for Christ to change the sinful characters of individuals to his sinless character. It is written that we to "Follow peace with all [men], and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord."- Hebrews 12:14. Did read that carefully? Without holiness we can not see God, that is from what we went true, without the character of God we cannot see God. For "Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God."- Matthew 5:7. Our minds need to be purified in order to attain this higher calling, and we learn from previous verses that we to behold the character of Christ, and that we can do by reading and practicing the truth which sanctify us.

1. Worldly Entertainment.

The opposite of 2 Corinthians 3:18 is also true, not only does one change by beholding Christ, but also one can change to the character of Satan by beholding him. But how? Remember Satan has planned many devises which suit certain individuals to deceive them. Well, worldly entertainment is one of them. It's music, movies, novels etc. It is true that the mind get used to the objects is directed to, and by beholding we become changed. The movies of the world which glorify evil, only corrupt the minds of men. The minds get polluted with the scenes they're exposed to, and one way or another the audience is affected. They (movies) hypnotize the viewer in so much that their emotions get affected. And the music also, filled with rebellion, filthiness is listened to. Music can become a snare the way it is conducted.

The effects of such snares, music and movies for example, can be seen in it's audience one way or another. It can be in the way of their dress, their hairstyles, their speech, their walk, their diet, or their way of thinking. Thus the entertainment dictating to men, Satan being the driver. Such things only just feeding our sinful nature. Men end up being more sinful, being proud and worldly minded. The Bible say, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."- Romans 12:2. How can one have the renewing of the mind while filling his mind with the corruption of the movies, and music of this world? Christians have a higher calling, the molding of God's character in them. For they cannot watch such things, neither partake in them. God has warned not to "love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him."- 1 John 2:15.

Any Christian should ask himself the WWJD question? That is, What Will Jesus Do? Would You be able to sit down with Christ in your living room watching those movies in which people there are breaking his law? Scenes of adultery, fornication, illicit sex, taking God's name in vain, or violence? If no, why would you watch yourself? or what about that music you listen to, or that novel you reading? Would he listen? Or the video games? Just look at how this things affect the marriages, how they affect the society. In heaven there won't be any satanic thing, so we need to prepare for heaven now, God has replacements that are Good, which will help us to grow in him. Our minds need to be saturated with truth, truth necessary for salvation, the written word of God.

For when Christ comes we will need to have characters which  are fit for heaven, and character building start here through the power of Christ, for without hi we can do nothing but we can "do all things through Christ which strengtheneth" us. This is what does who will follow Christ should be and be doing before he returns: "Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know [these things] before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
But grow in grace, and [in] the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him [be] glory both now and for ever. Amen."-2 Peter 3:14,17,18.
