The perplexities of driving and owning a car in America

03 May 2014, 22:30

Driving in the United States is a perplexing challenge. You have to get a driver's license. You have to drive on the right side of the road. You have to buy insurance for your vehicle. If you have ever been in an accident or have been caught driving drunk, you might have to get a special kind of insurance called SR22 insurance. That is when things get complicated.

The cost of SR22 insurance is more than the cost of regular insurance because it is considered high risk insurance. Some insurance companies don't offer SR22 insurance, so you might have to search for one that does cover high risk policies.

Anyone who needs SR22 insurance has to meet reporting requirements. Many insurance companies automatically report to the state if you keep up with the payments for the high risk insurance. Letting the coverage drop is horrible because you can lose your driver's license and possibly your car registration.

Another thing that is perplexing in the United States is how mad people get when they drive. Road rage is a real problem. Many people who drive are very hostile. They seem like they are always in a hurry. With the speed limits posted, some people think that all drivers should go a lot faster than that speed limit. Some drivers weave in and out of lanes and you have to really watch for them or you will have a crash.

Driving in the United States is a challenge some days, but it is an easy way to get around while you are living in the country. You can rely on public transit, but that isn't readily available in every city.
