Trying to get a 'good' education!!

14 March 2014, 14:29

Need help: - I'm hoping someone out there can put me in touch with somebody that can help with my problem.

I have a 22 year old - physically disabled Son. He used to be in a 'special' school, where kids like him are put into classes and forgotten about.

My problem is: Last year I found a school in Pretoria that helps adults in the same position as my son. After numerous meetings, and speaking to extremely friendly people - including the headmaster! I enrolled by Son to do his Grade 9 (Level 4), this year (Home Schooling, with a Tutor, and he would only do his exams at the school location)

After enrolling him,  (at a cost of R400.00), I was told that I need to buy his schoolbooks -(which I did at an enormous cost to me - which one does for one's children, whether you can afford it or not)!

A the beginning of January I diligently took the books to the school, and was told that the books were incorrect and that I need to buy the correct one's - without any information, because it seems that through the friendliness and what seemed very helpful staff at the school, I was not going to get any help at all, and it seems to get clearer by the day.

I am now on my third attempt to get some schoolbooks, and the school borrowed me 2 books (2009), that they now want back urgently, as none of the Grade 9 learners received ANY books from the Dept. of Education - to my astonishment, ALL the other grades received books.

We are now going into April, and it's time for exams. My Son has some books that I found through Via Afrika - Stimela Publishing (that I found via the Internet, and, again, I mention, at a cost to me, but I still don't have all),

Apparantly there are tasks that have to be finalised, I have not heard from the school AT ALL, exept to tell me that they want their books back.

Are text books only for some students? Is attention only for some students? Am I missing something? I am just nog getting anywhere and am at my wits end. PLEAAAASE can someone help me?
