What can you do for your country?

11 January 2013, 12:22
It was Khalil Gibran who said that 'ask not what your country can do for you, rather ask what can you do for your country".

We need to develop into a caring, sharing and compassionately committed society that is aware of the perils and levels of toxicity that stalks our beloved motherland. This calls for us to roll up our sleeves and to push against these perils and show government how patriotic we are. We can do this if we're willing!

Negative comments of late have only exacerbated the perilous position we find SA in which now calls for us to liberate ourselves from the shackles that we have placed on our legs. We need to break out that mental laager of "us" and "them" and develop into  "we, the people of South Africa" that the Preamble to the Constitution behoves us to become.

South Africa is aflame, De Doorns is the latest place of immolation and we need to douse the flames before it envelopes us all.
