A KZN household kept to level 4 water restrictions and so can you

09 March 2018, 10:59

A KZN household manages to get by with 110 liters per day for 4 adults and 2 dogs.

After a leak was discovered and getting a horrific bill while no one was home in December, a KZN household self-implemented their own "water restrictions".

Although they had already been conservative with their water (under 350L/day), they decided to get even harsher with their conservation methods. Their biggest water thief was their toilet, so they decided to catch their grey water from shower and washing machine only for their toilet. This single action has reduced their water usage by nearly 200l per day.

Without an active grey water collection system, this has meant that they are "bucket" showering, and carrying multiple buckets to their toilet cistern, but the effort has proven itself effective.

When we do eventually get to a serious crisis for water (in KZN or the Cape), simple efforts can help.
