'Lost Boys': A question of calibre

07 September 2018, 16:43

What calibre of journalism ignores the calibre of the pistol Magnus Malan allegedly fired into the anus of a teenager?

At times, Magnus carried a 9mm. Medical trauma science suggests that just the hydrostatic shock of a 9mm fired point-blank into that proximity to the liver, spleen, bladder and intestinal tract would have been fatal. Did he just probe or did he press the trigger? If a shot had gone off (or up), then the doctor's surgical skills should have earned him a Nobel Prize.

Despite this, his ethical obligations compel him to report a crime. Why not subpoena him? Even now. It might penetrate the painful truth or finger the malignant lie. Magnus was an insatiable prankster but never a sadist. Who of his detractors actually know how acts of a perceived war, committed with either initiative or in retaliation, affected his moral conscience?

Many who interacted with the man, are persuaded that he had one.
