Advice for the hapless DA

11 July 2018, 10:39

I live in Cape Town and have voted DA for many years now. Let's face it, in all these years they have been the only party to vote for; the ANC having royally messed things up prior to that.

Remember Rasool and Mfeketo? Eish! Best run province and City in SA for all these years.

But now . . . they are throwing it all away. Their own arrogance and insecurities have blinkered them so much that they have dug a hole for themselves so deep, they cannot climb out, nor see the light. And it is utter arrogance that got them here.

Four things need to happen.

1. Get humble - fast. Your current arrogant approach is killing you.

2. Let Mmusi lead. He is the right man to take the party forward and his progressive approach will garner black voters. The white, old leadership must let go of the past and embrace him and the future - or retire.

3. Settle out of court with Aunty Pat. If you have proof of wrongdoing, charge her (and tell us what it is). If not, settle with her and move on. Delivery is taking its toll because of this and people are getting gatvol with this nonsense.

4. Get focused on the elections - this means getting voter confidence back urgently! I cannot stress how urgent it is. The apathy shown by ANC voters in the local government elections (the real reason the DA managed to get coalitions in JHB/Pretoria/PE) will happen in Cape Town if you don't fix yourselves very, very fast. Imagine that? And I will be one of them.
