Dear Mr President
I understand why your cabinet is pushing to implement the
National Health Insurance Act, but I beg you to see reason and put a stop
to it immediately.
While I do agree that every citizen in this country deserves
the right to proper health care, I honestly think the NHI is the worst and
possibly most dangerous solution you can come up with at this point in time.
Do you really think it's wise and logical to implement yet
another state-owned enterprise on the people of South Africa, when all your
current SOEs are collapsing all around you?
Eskom is billions in debt, SAA is on the verge of being
grounded permanently, SABC is broke, the people asked that you declare Prasa as
a state of emergency, the South African postal system is defunct and don't even
get me started on the South African Police Service. All of these state-run institutions have
collapsed because of fraud, looting, corruption and money mismanagement.
You are asking South Africans to trust you with a billion rand
enterprise yet your cabinet has yet to fix the other billion-rand enterprises.
I strongly suggest putting this idea on hold until you fix the current problems
you are facing.
It was said that countries like the United States have
implemented this idea and it works wonders and while that may be true, you
cannot compare their thriving economy to our failing economy.
I beg you, Mr President, you are a smart, highly educated and
logical person. Don't force this SOE on us when your current SOEs are barely
hanging on.
